Oral history interview with Abdus Salam conducted by Andrew Pickering for his book, Constructing quarks, 1977 November 30.

One of 36 interviews with particle physicists conducted as background material for Pickering's book, CONSTRUCTING QUARKS: A SOCIOLOGICAL HISTORY OF PARTICLE PHYSICS (1984). This interview is one of a set (G. Feldman, J.C. Pati, A. Salam, and B. Stech) conducted with respect to a sociological study of color theory models of new elementary particles (the J-psi etc, 1974-1976) including quarks; see A. Pickering, "The Role of Interests in High-energy Physics: The Choice Between Charm and Colour," in K. D. Knorr, R. Krohn, and R.D. Whitley, eds., THE SOCIAL PROCESS OF SCIENTIFIC INVESTIGATION. SOCIOLOGY OF THE SCIENCES, VOL. 4, 1980 (Dordrecht: Reidel, 1981), 107-138. Pickering attempted to situate work on color theory within the overall context of an individual's career, including continuities and breaks.
